Mike’s hard-driven work ethic and competitive tenacity make him the ideal team member in any legal matter. When Mike is advocating for his client’s goals, there is no hill too high and no foe too fearsome. While highly capable of litigating across a variety of fields, Mike focuses on civil litigation, including energy, oil and gas, transportation, and defense and indemnity. He has experience litigating matters involving personal injury, wrongful death, premises liability, contract disputes, products liability, property damage, and insurance coverage. Mike has represented clients in multiple jurisdictions at all stages of litigation—from pre-suit investigation through trial—in state and federal courts.

Before practicing law, Mike received a bachelor’s degree in English from Louisiana State University of Alexandria and played baseball for the LSUA Generals during the most successful stretch in school history—a two-year period that included the program’s first national ranking, first conference championship, and first National Championship Opening Round appearance. Following his Senior season, Mike was named to the Red River Conference Gold Glove and All-Conference teams.

After hanging up his cleats, Mike returned to Texas and earned his JD at South Texas College of Law, where he was a member of the school’s Journal of International Economic Law and the nationally recognized moot court team. Following law school, Mike practiced for several years at a pair of well-respected Texas firms before joining HML in March 2025.

Cases & Experience
  • On trial team in a jury trial representing the defendant-driver involved in a single-vehicle, rollover accident that resulted in the death of one of the vehicle’s four occupants. Three of the four occupants, including the driver, were wearing seatbelts; the decedent was not. It was alleged that the defendant-driver was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the accident. After a four-day jury trial, the jury returned a verdict awarding damages totaling 5% of the amount the plaintiffs sought in closing arguments.
  • Briefed and argued a motion for summary judgment on behalf of a prominent oil and gas company in a suit involving an accident at a wellsite that resulted in catastrophic injuries. Successfully argued the wellsite was not under the client’s control when the accident occurred, resulting in a complete summary judgment in the client’s favor.
  • Developed discovery, deposed fact witnesses and expert witnesses and briefed several motions on behalf of a residential property owner in a premises liability suit in which the plaintiff alleged he was attacked in his residence by an unknown criminal assailant. Successfully defended motions to strike the client’s expert witness based on an alleged conflict of interest, and briefed a motion for summary judgment, arguing the evidence showed the assailant was an invitee of the plaintiff, which led to a favorable settlement.
  • Briefed and argued a motion for summary judgment on behalf of the employer of a commercial truck driver who was involved in a severe, multi-vehicle accident. The court granted summary judgment and dismissed the plaintiffs’ gross negligence claims, which led to a favorable settlement.
  • Represented a fitness club against a wrongful death claim arising out of a murder on the club’s premises. Developed evidence showing the club had no duty due to a lack of foreseeability and successfully negotiated a favorable pre-suit settlement.
  • Represented a restaurant-bar in a Dram Shop suit in which the plaintiff allegedly sustained catastrophic injuries in an accident after being overserved at the client’s bar. The plaintiff initially made several multi-million dollar demands. After developing discovery and obtaining testimony favorable to the client, the plaintiff’s claims against the client ultimately settled for $10,000.
